ANDREA ECHEVERRI

 

I am constantly looking for good music. I believe that music is one of the best ways to learn a language, to understand a culture, a society. I enjoy much the suggestions that other bloggers offer especially in the field of folk and global music, in other languages. Anytime people ask me about a good singer in Spanish, I immediately answer Andrea Echeverri.

 

I grew up with her voice, the first part of "Aterciopelados", lately more into her own records and also collaborations with other artists, Andrea is one of those iconic voices of Colombia. More than her voice, the music she writes is full of Colombian flavors and ideas, regionalisms and messages. Early this year, we had the opportunity to go to some concerts of her for the promotion of her latest album "Ruiseñora" that is the most feminist album that I had to listen lately. Because I live outside of Colombia, it becomes very important to teach my kids about Colombian music, she was so nice to meet them briefly and let them see their sound check.

 

She also is a mother (she has many songs about motherhood), a voice for women, an artist that has deep respect for cultures and people and an ecologist and activist. I really admire her. Her messages are important, like in the song "Que Me Parta un Rayo" that denounces the violence of genre and against children. What I like the most about her is that she uses a combination of the everyday language of Colombians and use it in a witty way to carry a message. Constantemente estoy en la busqueda de nueva música. Siempre he creido que la música es la mejor manera de aprender un idioma, de entender una cultura, una sociedad. Disfruto mucho de las sugerencia que otros blogeros ofrecen especialmente en la categoria de música autóctona y global y en otros idiomas. Cada vez que alguien me pregunta sobre un buen cantante en Español, inmediatamente respondo Andrea Echeverri.

 

Crecí con su voz, primero parte de "Aterciopelados", y después con sus albums y colaboraciones con otros artistas, Andrea es una de esas voces icónicas de Colombia. Más que su voz, su música esta llena de sabores e ideas colombianas, regionalismos y mensajes. Al principio de este año tuvimos la oportunidad de ir a sus conciertos en Miami y en West Palm Beach de su último album de solista "Ruiseñora" que es uno de los trabajos mas feministas que he escuchado ultimamente. Al vivir fuera de Colombia, es una de mis prioridades enseñar a mis hijos acerca de la música de Colombia, y afortunadamente ella fue muy amable de conocer a mis hijos y dejarles asistir a la prueba de sonido.

 

Andrea también es madre (ha escrito muchas canciones a la maternidad), una voz para las mujeres, una artista que tiene un profundo respeto por las culturas y las personas y una ecologista y activista. La admiro mucho. Sus mensajes son importantes, como en la canción "Que Me Parta un Rayo" que denuncia la violencia de genero y hacia los niños. Lo que mas me gusta de ella es como usa el lenguaje de todos los días de los Colombianos para llevar un mensaje inteligente. Escucha su música es muy buena!! y continua compartiendo a esos artistas que hacen una diferencia en tu esquina del mundo!!!
