In the month of May, I was so blessed to attend a Women of Color gathering called Sacred Waters. It was a space dedicated to go back to the roots, safe for everyone, and purposefully designed to encourage, heal and create community.
I was blown away with the wonderful women in attendance, I will be introducing many of them in different articles. One of those amazing women, is Gabrielle Tesfaye. She is a well rounded artist, that has a very striking style, that looks for a very deep search of the roots of the African diaspora, but also the spiritual connections, Gods and Goddesses from the Black cosmology. Her deep understanding about culture, has taking her many places, and right at this moment, she is in Ethiopia.
Meeting her was receiving her spirit energy. She expressed: "I am using different stories to service my ancestors. Many times making beauty our of pain. I connect with Elegua in my life"
Her first short film "The Water Will Carry Us Home" is a tribute for all those souls that lost their lives in slave ships. The connection with the stories and beliefs of the ancient tradition, really gives us another look to our humanity. Please visit her site and keep an eye in all her projects. En el mes de Mayo, fuí muy bendecida al poder atender la Conferencia de Mujeres de Color Sacred Waters. Fué un espacio dedicado a volver a las raíces, seguro para todas, y diseñado con la intención de alentar, curar y crear comunidad.
Fuí totalmente movida con todas las mujeres talentosas que atendieron, las estare presentando a muchas de ellas en artículos por venir. Una de esas mujeres maravillosas es Gabrielle Tesfaye. Ella es una artista completa, con un estilo marcado, que hace una busqueda profundo por las raíces de la diaspora Africana, sus conecciones espirituales, los Dioses y Diosas de la cosmología Africana. Su profundo entendimiento de la cultura, la ha llevado a muchos lugares, en este momento se encuentra en Etiopía.
Conocerla fue recibir su espíritu y energía. Ella expresó: "Estoy usando diferentes historias para el servicio de mis ancestros. Muchas veces es hacer belleza de el dolor. Me conecto con Elegua en mi vida"
Su primer filme corto llamado "El Agua Nos Llevará a Casa" es un tributo para todas esas almas que perdieron sus vidas en los barcos de esclavistas. La conección entre las historias y las creencias de las tradiciones ancestrales, realmente nos da un respirto de nuestra humanidad.
