Holocaust Educational Resources

Just seventy six years ago this year, the last concentration camp was liberated and the destruction of the Nazi estate was "On 27 January 1945, Auschwitz-Birkenau, the largest Nazi concentration and death camp, was liberated by the Red Army"

Sadly around the world, we are seeing an increased movement around the world of conspiracy stories that negate the Holocaust. That together with a rise of far-right (white supremacist) philosophy that many politicians seek to keep using to attack others, including Jewish persons around the world, is challenging us as parents and educators with the responsibility to teach our children accurate and many facets of documented history.

Reading about this sad event in history is an excellent first step to educate our families about the reasons why something so atrocious took place in the world.

Personally, I think it is very important to learn about all the people that resisted Nazi regime and sadly many historical books make emphasis only on the fascist movement that committed this genocide.

Here are some reading suggestions for books for children and YA that focus on the goodness and hope in people in the midst of such desperate times.

Tristemente alrededor de el mundo, estamos viendo un crecimiento de conspiraciones e historias que niegan el Holocausto. Esto junto a el crecimiento de filosofías de la ultra-derecha (supremacismo blanco) y que muchos políticos buscan apoyar para atacar a otros, incluyendo a las personas Judias alrededor de el mundo, nos presenta una responsabilidad urgente como padres y educadores de educar con veracidad y muchas diferentes versiones de la historia documentada.

El primer paso es la lectura sobre este triste evento para educar a nuestras familias sobre las razones de como algo tan horrendo pudo pasar en el mundo.

Personalmente, creo que es muy importante aprender sobre todas las personas que se resistieron a el regimen Nazi, ya que muchos libros historicos hacen solo enfasis en el movimiento fascista que cometió este genocidio.

I will strongly suggest to explore as well as a family the meaning of different words that lately, had been reappearing in the news like: Fascism, Communism, socialism, Authoritarian government, genocide, populism, democracy and politics.

We had been delving deeper on those terms with the use of different encyclopedias and creating a family conversation about why different people have so many different perceptions of their government. This is a very important first step to create critical thinking, tolerance and develop our own personal philosophy in life.

Yo recomiendo explorar como familia los significados de diferentes palabras que últimamente estamos escuchando muy seguido en las noticias como: Fascismo, Comunismo, socialismo, gobierno autoritario, genocidio, populismo, democracia y política.

Hemos estado haciendo esto como familia, usando diferentes enciclopedias y creando una conversación familiar sobre como diferentes personas tienen diferentes percepciones sobre su gobierno. Este es un paso muy importante para crear pensamiento crítico, tolerancia y desarrollo de una filosofía personal en la vida.

We are all together in remembrance of the courage and lives of all the holocaust victims. It is also up to all of us, to stop the cycle of supremacist thinking in the world. May our love for each other and our humanity make us walk together into another world that do not tolerate that type of hate among us.
