There is no doubt we live in a political clustered world. It doesn't matter where in the world you are right now, laws and governments are affecting us in one way or the other and the voice of real people becomes crucial. We love movements that start from the same social groups that are being affected by the very real struggles for basic rights. Those groups really represent those social sectors and can come up with very realistic and doable solutions. We advocate as parents to speak up, to support what matters to you and your loved ones and to teach our children that we are also connected with the causes and solutions of the problems in the world. What better way to teach than being actively involved in public marches. We had been participating as a family two years in a row with the movement of Fair Food organized by the Coalition of Immokalee Workers. It is a coalition of different groups (farm workers, farmers, university students, and churches) that advocate for a fair price of the fruits and vegetables to fund different programs for farm workers in Florida. We had marched two years in a row for Wendy's (fast food chain) to at least sit down with representatives of the Coalition and negotiate a better price for Florida tomatoes. We are always very impressed by the organization, the solidarity and the intelligence of this group. Last year the big event was at St. Petersburg FL, in which we marched several miles (yes, the kids did it too!) and we ended with a great concert with groups coming from California as Santa Cecilia, Ozomatli and Son Solidario.This year the march is still going around the country and came to West Palm Beach Fl, in which we marched crossing the bridge of Palm Beach (Palm Beach is one of the richest towns in Florida where a lot of millionaires have their Florida houses including the CEO of Wendy's and Trump). I cried at that moment!! It was very touching to see so many farm workers speaking up for their rights in front of people who had never seen a march before!!We are taking part of the boycott on Wendy's until they are willing to evaluate the value of tomatoes that certified fair treatment of the farm workers.

 

No hay duda de que vivimos en una maraña de mundo político. No importa en donde estes parado en este mundo ahora, las leyes y los gobiernos nos afectan de una manera u otra y la voz de las personas del día a día se vuelve crucial. Amamos los movimientos que representan a los grupos sociales que estan siendo afectados for la lucha real de sus derechos básicos. Estos grupos representan de la mejor manera a esos sectores y traen soluciones realistas y alcanzables. Como padres nosotros invitamos el levantar la voz y apoyar lo que te importa a ti y a tus seres amados y enseñar a nuestros hijos de que nosotros estamos conectados con las causas y soluciones para los problemas en el mundo.

Que mejor manera de enseñarles esto en la de participar en marchas públicas. Hemos participado como familia ya por dos años consecutivos con el movimiento de Fair Food organizado por la Coalición de los Trabajadores de Immokalee. Esta es una coalición de diferentes grupos (trabajadores del campo, terratenientes, estudiantes de universidad e iglesias) que abogan for un mejor precio en los productos del campo para sostener programas que ayudan a los trabajadores del campo en la Florida. Hemos marchado dos años seguidos para que Wendy's (una cadena de comida rápida) al menos se siente con los representantes  de la Coalición y negocien un mejor precio for los tomates de la Florida. 

Nos sentimos muy impresionados por la organización, la solidaridad y la inteligencia de este grupo. El año pasado en gran evento fue en St. Petersburg FL, en donde caminamos varias millas (si, los niños lo hicieron también!) y terminamos con un concierto por grupos de California como Santa Cecilia, Ozomatli y Son Solidario.

Este año la marcha todavía sigue por el país y vino a West Palm Beach FL, en la cual cruzamos el puente de Palm Beach (Palm Beach es una de las ciudades mas ricas de la Florida donde muchos millonarios tienen sus casas incluyendo el CEO de Wendy's y Trump). Yo lloré en ese momento!! Fué muy sentido el ver a tantos trabajadores del campo alzar sus voces por sus derechos en frente de personas que nunca habían visto una marcha!!

Estamos participando en el Boycott a Wendy's hasta que evaluen el costo de sus tomates y el trato justo para los trabajadores del campo. #CIW #fairfood #SantaCecilia #Ozomatli
